About Mr. Koza I was born and raised in Iowa City. I have been passionate about Art my entire life. I graduated from West High School in 1994, and the following Fall enrolled at Iowa State University (don't worry, my colors are still Black and Gold).
I graduated from Iowa State with a degree in Drawing, Painting, and Printmaking. Wanting to see more of this country, I moved out West in 1998 and spent several years teaching Kindergarten in Washington state and in Arizona. Although I truly enjoyed teaching Kindergarten, I moved to San Francisco, California in the Fall of 2000 and earned a degree in traditional Illustration from the Academy of Art in 2003. I lived in the City by the Bay for 7 wonderful years, but my roots were in the Midwest, and in 2007, I returned home to Iowa City. I received my teaching licensure in Art Education from the University of Iowa in 2009, and was fortunate enough to receive a job offer from the Solon Community School District. I received a Masters of Education from Graceland University in the Spring of 2014. I have been at Solon High School since the Fall of 2009, and I could not be happier. The students, staff, and community have welcomed me with open arms and have made my first years of teaching incredible. It is a privilege to work in the Solon Community School District. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I sponsor the Art Club, Prom Committee and GSA. I also continue to work professionally as a freelance artist and designer for clients around the country. I married my wife Sarah in the Summer of 2010. We welcomed our beautiful baby girl Abigail Grace Koza into the world on March 8, 2014. On June 25, 2017, our wonderful son Jacob Robinson Koza was born. The four of us along with our dogs Copper and Arlo live in Iowa City within a stone's throw of our beloved Kinnick Stadium.
