Poster DesignThe Poster Design project is designed to introduce students to real world design application. Students will design a poster for a school or community-related event to the specifications of a client. Emphasis will be placed on students' adherence to project guidelines and client requirements. Additional focus will be placed on color, communication, stylization and technique. Students will be expected to organize their work clearly in separate layers. This project will require that students exhibit a commanding knowledge of the elements and principles of graphic design.
Students are encouraged to investigate minimalist poster design and incorporate aspects of minimalism into their own designs. A link to an article with excellent examples may be found at the bottom of this page. If applicable, students may be required to replicate a "letterpress" poster aesthetic in their design by utilizing object and layer transparency options in order to achieve a "loose registration" look in their poster. Students will be expected to demonstrate how well they understand Adobe Illustrator tools and techniques when creating vector imagery from scratch based on their own sketches and drawings. This project may be resubmitted for a higher score. The project rubric is attached at the bottom of this page, and student examples may be found to the right. |
