Oil Pastel Still Life
The Oil Pastel Still Life project is a continuation of the contour object study in drawing from observation. Students will spend the first several days of the lesson rendering single pieces of fruit in oil pastel. Emphasis will be placed on layering color and recognizing light, value and local color. Students will then be given several days to create a more complex oil pastel drawing of a still life arrangement of at least 2 pieces of fruit and at least one basic still life object from the classroom collection. Students will be expected to produce an oil pastel drawing that implies form, proximity and light.
Examples can be found to the right. The project rubric is attached at the bottom of the page.
